Greenwich Millennium Village (GMV) in south-east London is a flagship housing project built on an urban village model to set the standard for 21st century living and to serve as a model for the creation of new communities in England.
The initiative aims to create a thriving sustainable community with a neighbourhood feeling at the heart of the approach. Among the long term environmental aims, the project focuses on ensuring sustainable methods within building, living and energy, including cutting energy used during construction, energy provision and consumption, water consumption, and waste disposal. As a sustainable and effective energy solution, district heating has been an important part of the GMV development.
